ELECTRODEIONIZATION

Electrodeionization

Electrodeionization is an electrochemical process that removes ions or ionic substances from water or other liquids using electrically active materials (ion-exchange membranes and resins) and an electrical potential to cause ion transfer.
Unlike capacitive deionization, electrodeionization is a continuous process that does not require alternating loading, discharging and leaching steps of the electrodes.

The technology combines two basic processes: electrodialysis and ion exchange, avoiding the main disadvantage of electrodialysis due to concentration polarization and exploiting the advantages of ion exchange. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as filled cell electrodialysis).

Benefits of electrodeionization

It achieves high-purity water from water that has already been treated during reverse osmosis or deionization columns.
